#133 closed Bug (fixed)

Playfair incorrect duplicate separation

Reported by: mdahshan@… Owned by: Matthäus Wander
Priority: Important Milestone:
Component: Playfair Keywords:

In Playfair cipher, some textbook descriptions teach that character separation should only be done if the duplicate characters occur in the same pair. For example, if the plaintext word is 'balloon', the pairs should be 'ba lx lo on'. Crytool and Cryptool2 always separate duplicate letters, even if they don't fall in the same pair.

Cryptool: 'balloon' --> 'ba lx lo xo nx'. Correct : 'balloon' --> 'ba lx lo on'.

I recommend that this should be fixed or at least be provided as an option for Playfair.

Thank you.
